DIY projects
For those who prefer to continue sheltering in place and are unable to join us in the community on Beautiful Day weekend, we’ve curated several opportunities that allow you to serve some of our most deserving neighbors from home.
Please drop items off on Sunday October 9th from 1-5 pm at the WestGate Saratoga Campus in front of the worship center (1735 Saratoga Ave, San Jose, CA 95129).
We would love to see your hard work! Please follow and tag us on social media (Instagram and Facebook) and email photos to photos@beautifulday.org including “DIY” in the subject line.

Hygiene Kits
Provide highly coveted hygiene items for our neighbors without homes. Please assemble items (toothbrush, toothpaste, disposable razor, deodorant, soap, and other similar items) in a quart-size Ziploc bag.
Appreciation Kits
A small gesture can go a long way. You can create a kit to show appreciation for our frontline workers and first responders. Packaged in a quart-size Ziploc bag, you can include items such as a deck of cards, dominoes, pocket-size puzzles and games, wrapped candy, an encouraging note and/or children’s artwork.
Project Linus
Project Linus is a local non-profit organization whose mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gift of handmade washable blankets. A perfect opportunity for children to get creative! You can find detailed, how-to instructions here: https://www.projectlinus.org/patterns/pdf/FringedFleece.pdf
Help One Child Family Fun Basket
By participating in this DIY project, you can provide a family with an evening of fun. Help One Child will help distribute these baskets to families who are in fostering, adopting, or otherwise at-risk. We ask that you gather family-friendly items and create a gift basket that you would be honored to receive. Items can include PG Movies, Snacks, Board or Card Games, Blankets, Books, Encouraging Notes, etc.
Westgate Water – Recycle
Over 1.5 million children die every year due to unsafe water and lack of sanitation. 783 million lack access to safe water. Take a look around your home or neighborhood, and gather up all of the empty bottles and cans, then bring them to the Westgate Saratoga Campus. Westgate Water will recycle your donations and will commit 100% of the money to build a well every month.
The Kindness Rock Project
Originally started in the U.S. in 2015, this viral trend of community goodwill has spread to the U.K., Australia and New Zealand, as well as other countries. Perfect for children, rocks are painted with pictures and/or inspirational messages or quotes and left around the community in public spaces, for everyone to enjoy.
Evangel Prison Ministries: Be a PenPal to an Inmate
A continuing outreach opportunity ministering to the needs of the incarcerated as a Pen Pal. This volunteer need extends beyond Beautiful Day weekend. Check out the opportunity here.
Be My Eyes App
A continuing outreach opportunity ministering to the needs of the sight impaired. This volunteer need extends beyond Beautiful Day weekend. If you have eyesight you want to share, sign up as a volunteer and answer calls from a person in need! Tasks are usually completed in just a few minutes, and if you’re busy there’s no need to answer – someone else will get it.
